Adebayo was the National Secretary of the OurMuMuDonDo Movement between 2015 and 2019. During this period, he led and participated in protests and projects against corruption, presidential junketing, gender profiling, electoral malpractices, modern slavery, and more. In 2017, Adebayo was one of the focal organizers of the first peaceful nationwide protests against police brutality in Nigeria under the banner of the EndSARS-ReformPoliceNG Movement.
In 2019, Adebayo led the Digital Freedom Advocacy, which played a significant role in the interment of two legislative bills that sought to harshly delimit free speech under the pretext of fighting fake news and hate speech—with death sentence as the proposed maximum penalty. The advocacy produced the first and only Democratic Solutions to Fake News and Hate Speech Document in Nigeria, and perhaps Africa. The document, which was presented to lawmakers and international organizations, compiled how democratic countries across the world deal with fake news and hate speech without delimiting citizens’ right to freely express themselves.
In 2020, Adebayo was one of the frontline coordinators of the nationwide EndSARS protests in Nigeria. His role in the protests in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, exposed him to serious threats from state and non-state agents, ultimately forcing him into exile where he has continued his activism.
Adebayo’s book, De-Nigerianization, was published in the UK by Abibiman Publishing in March 2022, and his short story, A Legacy of Negro Nihilism, was shortlisted for the 2022 Earl Lovelace Short Fiction Prize. In 2024, Adebayo's short story, Unexplainable Bygones, was shortlisted for the K & L Prize for Fiction. He has ghostwritten over a dozen highly praised non-fiction books on history, politics, pedagogy, and self-help. His writings have appeared in the Daily Maverick, SaharaReporters, West Africa Weekly, Business Day, among others. He is a 2023-2024 Fellow of the Freedom Fellowship of the Human Rights Foundation.
Adebayo divides his time between exposing the decadence of the Nigerian state and creating historical and intellectually rich masterpieces.
